Now this is what you call beating the odds and then some! A retired Canadian man just reminded the world that lightning can strike more than once—especially when you’ve got that golden touch. While most folks are praying to hit the lotto even once in their lifetime, this lucky grandpa is out here collecting wins like it’s a full-time job. But that’s not even the wildest part…
David Serkin, a cancer survivor and retired Albertan, has won the lottery four times, racking up nearly $3 million in total winnings. His latest hot streak includes three jackpots in just nine months—$500K in August 2024, $1M in November, and another $1M in May 2025 from Lotto 6/49 tickets. This all came after his first big win over a decade ago when he scored $250,000.
“I know the odds are astronomical,” Serkin admitted in a press release. “I don’t think it’ll happen again, but I still like buying tickets.”
The man’s winning tickets were all bought locally, including his most recent $1 million score from a gas station in his hometown of Lethbridge. And while the odds for one of his wins were a staggering 1 in 33.3 million, Serkin isn’t new to the game—he’s been playing since 1982. His friends couldn’t believe it either. “Not again?!” they reportedly said when he shared the news during their morning coffee meetup. And yes, Serkin is spending the money—he’s already planning a vacation with his wife.
More than just a lucky guy, Serkin’s story hits different. He’s a cancer survivor who’s choosing to live life in gratitude. “I’m retired, so I am just grateful for all of it,” he said. His advice on winning big?
“You check your ticket and if you win—you’re happy. If you don’t, you can always try again,” Serkin added. Now that’s the energy we’re bringing all year.
Serkin kept it low-key about his cancer journey, but one thing he did share? He’s taking wifey on another celebratory getaway!
“I took my wife to Hawaii with the last win, and we had a great time,” he said to officials. “Now, we’re going to Newfoundland!”
Okay, passport stamps and prize money? We love that for them!
