Joycelyn Savage isn’t letting her parents interrupt her bliss regarding her fiancé, R. Kelly. Recently, she and her loved ones have shared different narratives about the state of her life. After Timothy and Jonjelyn Savage slammed the disgraced mogul’s plea for a pardon, Savage clapped back. In a new video, she denied being a victim or being brainwashed. However, her parents seem to think it’s just another trick!
Let’s backtrack to what kicked off the parents-daughter faceoff. Earlier this month, R. Kelly’s defense team hosted a press conference, claiming their client’s life is in danger in prison. At the time, they also sought a pardon from President Donald Trump. Days later, R. Kelly reported dizzy symptoms while in solitary confinement. It led to his transportation to a local Durham, North Carolina, hospital.
The music producer’s lawyer claimed he suffered an overdose after the hospital gave him too much of his medications. The incident made Kelly double down on his request for an early temporary release from prison. However, Judge Martha Pacold denied his petition for home detention on Thursday, June 19. The judge claimed she’s out of her jurisdiction with the request, given that he’s been convicted and sentenced. Her power lies in determining whether he can challenge his conviction or not.
That said, here’s where Joycelyn Savage’s parents come in. Before Judge Pacold blocked R. Kelly’s home detention request, a lawyer for the parents spoke out. Attorney Gerald Griggs reportedly told TMZ that the Savage family believes he shouldn’t be pardoned by Trump. The lawyer also said Timothy and Jonjelyn Savage hadn’t spoken to their daughter since a “short phone call” in 2019. They also believe she’s still under his “grip” and “control,” per Griggs. Additionally, the parents said they hoped to hear from her soon and that R. Kelly should focus on taking accountability for his crimes.
As mentioned, Joycelyn Savage wasted no time clocking her parents’ POV of her life! The 29-year-old addressed Attorney Griggs’ statements to TMZ in an on-camera video. Rocking an R. Kelly shirt, Joycelyn immediately said she’s “not a victim.” She also shared that she’s been with Kelly for ten years, including the six years he’s been in jail for sex crimes. Joycelyn also clarified that she’s seen her man “every weekend” since he’s been locked up, and even proposed to him three years ago. He allegedly accepted the proposal.
“We are planning on getting married, starting a family and I’m very excited about that. But anyways, I just wanna come on here to let you know that please don’t believe the lies that my mother and father are coming out here saying about me and Robert. I am not held against my will, I am not a sex slave. I am not brainwashed or any of those crazy lies that were told on me.”
Joycelyn Savage added that she wants “righteous justice” for R. Kelly, who she thinks “deserves to be free.” She said, “Enough is enough. I’m tired, he’s tired as well.” Savage asked their supporters to continue praying for him. “I believe that he will be out soon, I have hope,” she said. After dropping another warning about her parents’ “lies,” Joycelyn said she doesn’t call them because she doesn’t want to speak to them.
“I have a cell phone and I choose not to call them. I’m a grown woman, and if I choose not to call them, that’s my choice, and it is what it is. Once again, I’m happy where I’m at. I’m in love and I’m good,” Savage said before ending the video. Swipe below to see her entire video.
