Twitch star Kai Cenat recently broke his silence after content creator Zoe Spencer’s emotional reaction to being excluded from his latest project, Streamer University. The internet lit up after Zoe took to her livestream to express how hurt she was about not being selected, despite being a fan-favorite and having close ties to many creators who made the cut. And now, Kai has addressed it!
On Friday night, May 16, Kai Cenat went live on Twitch to announce the 120 accepted streamers for his upcoming project, Streamer University. This upcoming event aims to help rising streamers increase their content, gain exposure, and network with other creators.
Kai split the 120 creators into three groups: up-and-coming streamers with little exposure, mid-level streamers who could use a boost, and well-known creators who can support and collaborate with the others.
When applications opened on May 6, reports say almost 7 million people visited the webpage, so many that the influx of applicants crashed the site.
Despite being a fan favorite, Zoe Spencer was not selected for Streamer University. Following the announcement, fans flooded Twitch chats and social media with speculation about her absence. In response, Spencer went live to share her side. She confirmed that she applied to the program but was not accepted. “I feel like one of the friends in the friend group that didn’t get invited to the party,” she said. Spencer noted that several of her close friends were selected, including fellow content creator Zeddy Will, with whom she frequently collaborates. She expressed that the exclusion felt “intentional” and “personal.”
“Not true. Absolutely not true,” she said, shutting down the speculation and urging internet users to stop putting her name in rumors.
The dating rumors between Kai Cenat and Zoe Spencer seemed to come from their frequent collabs and on-screen chemistry, which had fans convinced there was more going on. But since then, Kai has gone public with his girlfriend GiGi and even said he’s done using “girls” as part of his content.
During his latest livestream, Kai Cenat directly addressed Zoe Spencer’s emotional video. He began by giving Zoe her flowers, calling her one of the top female streamers, and emphasizing he had no animosity toward her despite recalling a few situations that seemingly “turned him off.”
The first, he recalled, occurred backstage at a Druski event in Atlanta, where he experienced what he described as “secondhand embarrassment” from Zoe’s behavior. Secondly, he shared a clip where Zoe told her viewers they wouldn’t see her and Kai stream together anymore because he’s now in a relationship. Kai said both moments led him to believe that Zoe no longer cared for him.
As the stream went on, Kai became visibly frustrated. He called out the growing trend of people making slick remarks about him and dismissing them as jokes or trolling. He also said creators shouldn’t let Streamer University make them feel less valuable. After all the backlash and stress, Kai said he might not do something like this again.
Zoe’s emotional reaction quickly sparked a wave of support and speculation across social media. Fans flooded The Shade Room Teens’ comments—some confused, others calling out Kai and questioning the selection process.
