Fans are devastated after hearing the news that television host Ananda Lewis passed away. Ananda gained recognition for hosting several MTV shows, including ‘TRL’ and ‘Hot Zone.’
PEOPLE reports that Ananda Lewis passed away at the age of 52 after a lengthy battle with breast cancer. An account allegedly believed to belong to her sister, Lakshmi, announced the news of her death in a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 11.
Ananda’s sister shared a black-and-white photo of her with the caption, “She’s free, and in His heavenly arms. Lord, rest her soul
”
Lewis died almost five years after she first revealed her Stage 3 breast cancer diagnosis in an Instagram post in October 2020. In a video she shared at the time, she explained how tough it was to share the news. She also said at the time that she had been battling cancer and “fighting to get it out of her body for almost two years.”
Per PEOPLE, Ananda Lewis achieved notoriety in 1997 when she joined MTV’s ‘Total Request Live’ and ‘Hot Zone.’ She left MTV in 2001 to host her own talk show, ‘The Ananda Lewis Show.’ Lewis also appeared on reality shows like ‘Celebrity Mole: Yucatán’ and hosted A&E’s ‘America’s Top Dog’ as well as TLC’s ‘While You Were Out.’
According to the New York Post in 2023, Lewis responded to MTV News shutting down after 36 years and reflected on her time with the network. She called the popular channel “a pillar of creative and diverse speech.”
“MTV News covered things no one else could. We could get inside the trailer with DMX and Korn as they were taking historic concert stages. Artists trusted MTV News to tell their stories,” Ananda told PEOPLE at the time.
