As protests heat up over President Trump’s immigration crackdown, one Florida sheriff isn’t holding back. Just days before the nationwide “No Kings” rallies — a nationwide response to Trump’s latest actions, a Brevard County sheriff hopped on the mic and issued a bold warning. His apparent threat has people talking — and not everyone’s here for it.
Tensions are already high ahead of Saturday’s planned protests, but things escalated further when Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey stepped up to the podium and delivered a jaw-dropping message. During a press conference, Sheriff Ivey stated in part:
“If you throw a brick, a firebomb, or point a gun at one of our deputies, we will be notifying your family where to collect your remains at because we will kill you, graveyard dead. We’re not going to play.”
His remarks prompted a range of responses online. Some viewed his statement as overly aggressive, expressing concern that it could escalate tensions rather than ease them. Others emphasized the importance of law enforcement, particularly during a period of widespread civil unrest.
@nbcsouthflorida Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey then had strong words after Florida’s Attorney General announced a new plan to protect ICE agents. The program is set to help any ICE agent who believes that personal identifying information has been revealed. Now, they will be able to report that to the Florida Highway Patrol team to ensure safety. According to AG James Uthmeier, the plan was enacted after ICE agents started receiving threats. florida ice agent #information
Social media quickly lit up with reactions to Sheriff Ivey’s comments. Some accused the sheriff of escalating tensions rather than protecting public safety, while others defended his stance on potential violence. And, users took to The Shade Room Instagram comment section to voice their opinions.
One Instagram user @thetrapwitch said, “We is in da Purge Fam ”
This Instagram user @mollyhopkins joked, “He gonna be out of oxygen before he can do anything”
And, Instagram user @its_me_miati added, “It’s giving premeditation”
Meanwhile, Instagram user @alexhnd_32 said, “I agree with him, y’all do too damn much it’s not that serious. ”
While Instagram user @dat_damn_tito wrote, “Well! He warned you of the consequences of your actions.”
Likewise, Instagram user @carlosriverafinancial added, “…F*ck around and find out”
The warning comes just days after President Trump ordered the deployment of over 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles to “protect” federal agents. That move has only added fuel to the fire, with more protests and clashes erupting in major cities across the country. Organizers of the “No Kings” rally have reportedly called for peaceful demonstrations, but tensions seemingly remain high as law enforcement agencies brace for large turnouts. Sheriff Ivey’s comments have amplified fears among activists, many of whom worry about the use of excessive force during what are intended to be peaceful gatherings.
Those fears have only appeared to grow in light of Trump’s recent immigration crackdown, which allegedly included upping ICE arrest quotas. The result: sweeping raids across the country, with Los Angeles seeing some of the highest numbers of arrests.
